Describe new fittings, floor work, heating changes and any pipe alterations, together with the first observed symptom.
Collect existing records
Photographs before surfaces were closed can identify routes or access points. Earlier tests and repair notes are also useful.
Leave the cause open
A symptom after work does not automatically prove the work caused it. The investigation should establish what the evidence supports.
