What the method adds
Escaping pressurised water may create sound that travels through pipework and surrounding material. Listening at suitable positions can help narrow a search, especially when the system and access allow a useful comparison.
Conditions and limitations
Quiet leaks, plastic pipes, depth and ambient noise can limit useful results.
Useful preparation
Explain background noise, accessible fittings and the likely pipe route.
From result to repair
Equipment readings are considered with the system layout, symptoms and other findings. Where access is justified, the opening and plumbing repair are agreed as part of the instruction. Detection does not remove the need to reach a concealed pipe.
